When implement an Employee Engagement Program, which would include a charter, goals, objectives, and solicitations for volunteer committee members, let’s imagine you want to send a message to all of your employees that basically says,
“Hey, we, the company, value you and your contributions. We want you to feel comfortable communicating your thoughts.”
Most companies who undertake this type of initiative tend to do an assessment or survey first and then build the program as part of the resolution process.
In my opinion, create the program first, assemble your committee members, and then let them determine what type of assessment tool to use. Let them determine what questions should be included in the survey. This sends the message that they are driving this program; not just reacting to the results of a survey that the company orchestrated.
Who knows better what the company needs to be aware of than the employees who will be answering the questions; the employees who are looking for answers, for change, for inclusion in the decisions that are being made.
