Continuing our discussion on employee engagement, let’s start with what we already know about our employees… in other words, “use what you know”. Use their new hire paperwork to start your connection. We can use the following:
- Birth date – we recognize each employee’s birthday. There are a myriad of ways to do this: postings on bulletin boards or TV’s, intranet, speaker announcements, newsletter, table tents, etc.
- Emergency contacts – we now have the names and relationships of people who are significant to the employee. We can periodically ask how ______ is doing to start a conversation with the employee. NOTE: It is important to keep emergency contact information up to date. Do this at least annually.
What creative ways do you use to make connections and start/build conversations with your employees?
